Born in Modigliana (FC), Italy on January 25, 1952 and admitted to practice in Italy in 1981, after a few years working in the legal department of a multinational group; member of the Bologna Bar Association and qualified to practice before the Italian Supreme Court (Corte di Cassazione). Mediator for Curia Mercatorum of Treviso.

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

  • School of Advanced International Studies, "The Johns Hopkins University" (Master of Arts, International Affairs, 1977)

  • Qualified as a mediator for international and domestic civil and commercial disputes

  • Multiple decades of experience in domestic and international arbitration, both as an arbitrator (sole arbitrator or member of an arbitral tribunal) and as counsel

  • Multiple decades of experience representing clients before the European Court of Justice and Court of First Instance

PRACTICE AREAS:

commercial and contract law (and in those areas: transactions, litigation, mediation and arbitration); company and industrial property law; M&A; bankruptcy law and business distress; European Union law; particular experience in the mechanical and automotive industries, with which he has worked since 1977, as well as in the clothing and luxury sectors.

In addition to his practice in these areas, he lectures frequently at universities and for a number of organizers of training and continuing education courses, trade associations and chambers of commerce both in Italy and internationally.

  • In these areas he has worked and continues to work in the automotive sector for industrial groups of international importance, with particular reference to industrial collaboration, organization of production, supply chain protection and management of business distress situations involving suppliers and to distribution;
  • He has assisted and provided consulting services (transactions and litigation) for multiple decades to a leading Italian company in the fashion industry in connection with manufacturing, distribution and franchising;
  • He has carried out numerous domestic and international mergers and acquisitions in various product and service sectors;
  • He has considerable experience in business reorganization, including the antitrust aspects;
  • As concerns finance, on behalf of Directorate General XVIII, Credit and Investments of the EU Commission, he drafted the financing agreements as well as the underlying legal scheme devised to grant EC financial aid to EU companies operating in Central-Eastern Europe;
  • In the area of EU law, he served on the teams of lawyers representing the EEC Commission in antitrust litigation before the EU Court of First Instance and Court of Justice, including the PORT OF GENOA (port monopoly) case, the PVC cartel, the LDPE cartel and the CEMENT cartel cases; he also represented companies before said courts in the JOB CENTRE case concerning temporary employment and the NEWHOLLAND (FIAT) case on sale of assets in a bankruptcy context (amministrazione giudiziaria delle grandi imprese in crisi); in addition, he has handled international transactions relevant for purposes of EU antitrust law, including the relating merger notifications.

Professor under contract with the University of Milan Polytechnic (Politecnico di Milano), Department of Management Engineering, teaching courses on international contracts (since 2003); member of the permanent faculty of the “Scuola di formazione superiore” of the University of Milan Polytechnic – MIP (from 2002), lecturing on international contracts and international commercial litigation; he also lectures frequently for a number of organizers of training and continuing education courses, trade associations and chambers of commerce both in Italy and internationally.

Consultant to the Union of the Lombardy Chambers of Commerce (Unioncamere Lombardia) on international contracts and international payments (since 2009); formerly consultant to the International Trade Center of the Emilia-Romagna Chambers of Commerce (beginning in 1984) and subsequently for the Union of the Emilia-Romagna Chambers of Commerce (Unioncamere Emilia-Romagna) (until 2008); formerly consultant to the International Trade Center of the Tuscany Chamber of Commerce (1994-1999 and 2007-2008).
